KENNEDY ON THE SELECTION OF DR. DAVID BLUMENTHAL TO LEAD HEALTH IT EFFORT

Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Senate Health Committee, today released the following statement in response to President Obama's selection of David Blumenthal as coordinator for health information technology:

"President Obama has made an inspired choice in selecting David Blumenthal to lead the Administration's effort to bring health care into the digital age. David is the right person to oversee this major initiative to reduce costs, avoid errors, improve care, and save lives."

Dr. Blumenthal was a member of Senator Kennedy's health staff from 1977 to 1980. The recently enacted stimulus bill invested $19 billion for health information technology.
